Our Story

Since 1886, Together for Youth has evolved alongside the children, youth, families, and communities of New York State.

For more than 140 years, one thing has remained constant: our commitment to empowering young people and strengthening families. As communities have changed, we have changed with them. As new challenges have emerged, we have developed new solutions. As research has advanced, we have embraced evidence-based and evidence-informed practices. As the needs of children, youth, and families have grown more complex, we’ve expanded our expertise, strengthened partnerships, and continually reimagined how we can make the greatest impact.

Today, Together for Youth is one of New York State’s leading nonprofit youth and family services organizations, serving communities across 60 counties through a broad continuum of trauma-informed, evidence-based services shaped by county partnerships, community needs, and individualized support.

Strengthening Families

Our community-based programs help children, youth, and families remain safely together whenever possible through prevention services, family preservation, mentoring, skill-building, and individualized support in homes, schools, and communities.

Providing Safety & Belonging

When children and youth cannot safely remain at home, our foster care services and group homes provide stability, supportive relationships, permanency planning, and opportunities to build confidence and life skills.

Supporting Healing

Our behavioral health services connect eligible youth and families with clinical care, care management, nursing case management, and community-based supports that promote emotional wellness and resilience.

Creating New Opportunities

Our detention services provide safe, structured environments where youth receive education, behavioral supports, life skills, and positive relationships that support successful transitions back to their communities.

Across every program, Together for Youth integrates evidence-based and evidence-informed practices, combining research, proven models, individualized planning, and continuous learning to strengthen outcomes for young people and families.
