The Rochester Group Home, in Monroe County, is located in Rochester, New York and serves males only.
The Rochester Group Home is one of seven group homes currently operated by Berkshire Farm Center and Services for Youth. This home provides a 24-hour staff-supervised and structured treatment environment for males between the ages of 12 and 21 whose personal, social, developmental, or family situations preclude them from living at home or in a less restrictive setting.
The Rochester Home is located near the Seneca Park Zoo in Rochester, New York. Our youth attend the West Irondequoit School District. We encourage our youth to become involved in sports, clubs, perform volunteer work in the community and attain employment locally. The home features a handicap wing for residents who may need special amenities to meet their needs.
The Treatment team aids in the cultural, clinical, recreational, and educational development of each youth by implementing the Berkshire Model of Care and Treatment (BMCT). This model builds on each youth’s strengths, using "teachable moments" throughout the day to reinforce their positive behaviors. In addition the Group Home is implementing the Sanctuary Model, which is treatment intervention-based on the tenets of trauma theory and addresses the ways in which trauma, adversity, and chronic stress influence individual behavior. Sanctuary is based on the idea that healing from trauma, stress, and adversity requires creating an environment that promotes healing.
Staff members at the home, as well as people from the community, facilitate group counseling for the youth approximately five times a week. Group topics include: Independent Living, Social Skills, Anger Management, Discharge Planning, Planned Parenthood, and Grief and Loss. The youth, at times, also help to facilitate a group.
In addition to the Direct Care Group Home Counselors, our staff consists of a Clinical Coordinator, a House Manager and two Group Home Supervisors. The Clinician counsels the youth and their family, while our supervisors oversee the youth in program by supervising the Group Home Counselors, all of whom are dedicated to excellence in the field of child and family welfare.
Academic tutoring is provided Monday-Thursday at West Irondequoit High School to assist our residents in meeting their educational goals. In Collaborating with outside service providers in our community, we strive to provide our youth with all the tools and supports they require to be successful.
We invite you to visit us and learn more. We would be delighted to provide you with a tour of our group home, to answer questions you may have about our program, to introduce our staff, and to show you how we can provide services you may need.
