The Ancram Group Home, in Columbia County, serves females only and is located in a beautiful country setting in Ancram, just outside of Hudson. The girls residing in our home attend Hudson Schools.
The home has four bedrooms, two full baths and two half-baths. The dining room is on the main floor, while the living room is in the finished basement. We are converting the "mud room" into an exercise area, which will feature a treadmill and an elliptical machine. We have a large yard that the girls utilize in the summer, and we often have a volley ball or badminton net set up for the girls to use.
The girls residing at the home get an early start to the day. They wake up at 5:00am and, after breakfast, the school bus picks them up. After school we encourage the girls to attend their extra-curricular activities such as sports and clubs. On Tuesdays and Thursdays the girls attend a dance program at the main campus with the boys and learn different styles of dance such as step, hip hop, and African. Each of the girls has a primary worker they are able to speak to on a consistent basis. This is the person they end up feeling most comfortable with, especially during times of stress.
The Group Home Treatment team aids in the cultural, clinical, recreational, and educational development of each youth by implementing the Berkshire Model of Care and Treatment (BMCT). This model builds on each youth’s strengths, using "teachable moments" throughout the day to reinforce their positive behaviors. In addition the Group Home is implementing the Sanctuary Model, which is treatment intervention-based on the tenets of trauma theory and addresses the ways in which trauma, adversity, and chronic stress influence individual behavior. Sanctuary is based on the idea that healing from trauma, stress, and adversity requires creating an environment that promotes healing.
Many of our girls enjoy going to the movies and the mall. Recently we have also attended a step performance at the Palace Theater, Laser Tag, school plays, and we took a nature hike at Thatcher Park, enjoying Ben and Jerry’s Ice Cream afterward.
We invite you to visit us and learn more! We would be delighted to provide you with a tour of our group home, to answer questions you may have about our program, to introduce our staff, and to show you how we can provide services you may need.
