Golf Classic 2014

Golf Classic raises unprecedented support for Workforce Development Program

imageFor dozens of local and regional business and community leaders who spent a perfect-weather day on July 21st at Berkshire’s annual Golf Classic, the students who greeted players, brought water, or spoke to the dinner crowd were a great inspiration for their collective contribution of $100,000 to Berkshire’s Workforce Development Program.

Each student had a great opportunity to look a new person in the eye, introduce himself clearly, thank a donor and share his personal experience at Berkshire. In turn, each guest had deepened understanding of the power of the program.

During the dinner and awards program, Saadiq W., a young student at Berkshire High School, spoke about the Workforce Development Program and what Berkshire has done for him. He said, “On behalf of all of the students at Berkshire, thank you for coming out today and supporting us. Your support means more to us than you will ever know.”

Arthur J. Gallagher & Co. served as the Classic's Title Sponsor and has been a major Berkshire supporter for years. Justin Riccio, Area Executive Vice President at Arthur J. Gallagher & Co., said, "We are very pleased to support Berkshire and its Workforce Development Program. Berkshire's programs have proven to be highly effective, impacting youth in many positive ways."

The law firm of Girvin & Ferlazzo, PC, also a major long-time supporter of Berkshire, co-hosted the Classic. “We are proud to be part of this great event,” said James Girvin. “The tremendously effective work Berkshire does for youth who have experienced so much trauma is the reason we support their programs.” He added, “The Golf Classic is also a lot of fun and I heartily recommend participating next year to anyone who missed this round.”

It was a great day for golfing at the Colonie Golf & Country Club. The weather was sunny and slightly breezy, and some 22 volunteers, many of them Berkshire employees, ensured that the golfing, refreshments, and dinner entertained and inspired. A full slate of 128 golfers from around the region spent the day on the course, and then gathered for dinner and an awards ceremony. The golfers and their sponsoring companies play a huge role in the success of our annual fundraising event. Their generosity and sponsorship is crucial to the success of the Workforce Development Program.

We thank all of our sponsors and donors, including:
