Celebrating Foster Care

Foster parents, strongly supported by Berkshire, are the magic ingredient in our program, and hundreds of them helped us create a uniquely Berkshire celebration of National Foster Care Month in May. image

On May 4th, more than 400 foster families, staff, and supporters formed “Team Berkshire” at the 2014 Greater Binghamton Bridge Run, a premiere running event hosted by the Chamber of Commerce, which chose Berkshire as its Charity Partner this year. The $3,000 raised will support our Foster Care Program, which has been providing safe and loving homes for children in foster care for more than 30 years.

"The entire Berkshire family is grateful to the Greater Binghamton Chamber," said Tim Giacchetta, Berkshire CEO (second from right, front row in photo above). "This was a wonderful opportunity to build awareness of the need for foster homes and to support our foster families.”

Happily, Binghamton University student Mitchell Abrams of New York City, who ran for Team Berkshire, won the 2014 Bridge Run 5k race. Afterward Mitchell said he was proud to represent Berkshire Foster Care. Like several other members of the community, Mitchell was just learning about Berkshire and the work we do every day. image

"Every child deserves a safe home and a loving family. Community events like the Bridge Run raise awareness and help us provide that for more children in need," said Alicia Young, Vice President of Home-based Foster Care (4th from left in the photo to the left at the Binghamton Chamber’s Annual Dinner).

On May 31, staff, families, and supporters participated in the 26th Annual Freihofer's Community Walk in Albany. This annual community event enables not-for profit organizations like Berkshire to raise money and awareness. There was no fee for walkers to participate in the nearly two-mile walk and all the sponsorships of Team Berkshire will support the children and families in our Foster Care Program.

“Community events like these boost our vital programs and fulfill our mission of strengthening children and families throughout New York State. We are grateful to everyone who participated and donated to support Berkshire Foster Care,” said Giacchetta.
