Canaan, NY - December 30, 2010 - Berkshire Farm Center and Service for Youth, based in Canaan, has been providing education and life-learning skills for at-risk youth for 124 years and thanks to a donation from Metro Mattress, it will now be able to provide two new beds in one of its group homes.

In a press release from Metro Mattress, upstate New York's largest mattress retailer, the company recently donated new beds to 25 charitable organizations in the Albany/Mohawk Valley area through its "50 Beds in 50 Days" program. The program, which began in Central New York/Southern Tier in January, has donated a total of 205 beds throughout the year.

In Albany/Mohawk Valley, more than 35 501 (c)3 organizations, Berkshire Farm included, submitted applications requesting a total of nearly I, 175 beds. "It is our hope that these beds will help provide these people in need with a comfortable night's sleep," said David Shiroff, president and CEO of Metro Mattress, with the nearest store on Route 9W in Glenmont (and six others in the Albany area).

Keith Toomey, director of Communications at Berkshire Farm, agreed. He said that as important as the learning process is for the at-risk youth, it is vi tally important that they get a good night's rest so that they are more focused on that learning. Toomey admitted that the two donated beds are being sent to a Berkshire Farm group home in Plattsburgh, but added that even by donating these two beds, "it will defray costs" for the organization, allowing for the development of other programs at Berkshire Farm - in Canaan and at its other group homes.

Metro Mattress has been serving its customers for more than 35 years and is an accredited business with the Belter Business Bureau with an A+1 rating. For more information on Metro Mattress or its "50 Beds in 50 Days" program, visit Metro Mattress.
